Deep Open Snake Tracker for Vessel Tracing

Vessel tracing by modeling vascular structures in 3D medical images with centerlines and radii can provide useful information for health. Existing algorithms have been developed but there are certain persistent problems such as incomplete or inaccurate vessel tracing, especially complicated beds like the intracranial arteries. We propose here a deep learning based open curve active contour model (DOST) to trace vessels images. Initial curves were proposed from centerline segmentation neural network. Then data-driven machine knowledge was used predict stretching direction radius of initial curve, while (as human knowledge) maintained smoothness intensity fitness curves. Finally, considering non-loop topology most vasculatures, individually traced connected into tree applying minimum spanning algorithm on global connection graph. evaluated DOST Time-of-Flight (TOF) MRA artery dataset demonstrated its superior performance over existing segmentation-based tracking-based methods. In addition, showed strong adaptability different imaging modalities (CTA, MR T1 SPACE) (coronary arteries).
